IMQ is the abbreviation of Italy qualitymark Institute. Founded in 1951, it is an independent, non-profit organizationresponsible for the inspection and certification of electrical and gasappliances and their materials. IMQ currently controls about 170 categories ofequipment, testing more than 3,000 new products annually and more than 16,000certified products. In Italy, groups and organizations supporting IMQ includethe National Research Council (CNR), the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministryof Industry, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministryof Posts, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and theMinistry of Defence. Among the standing members of IMQ, besides the powerbureaus of major cities, there are also relevant committees, bureaus andassociations interested in product certification. The status and qualificationsof IMQ members ensure the independence and impartiality of the testing work.
